My old friend, the laserist Jim Webb, came over for an afternoon of viewing some transmission holograms in my collection.
We started with some recent acquisitions from The National Physical Laboratory www.jrholocollection.com/collection/npl.html
- a number of pieces made in the 1960s, which they have kindly donated to the collection then went through works by Gary Cullen www.jrholocollection.com/collection/cullen.html
Paula Dawson www.jrholocollection.com/collection/dawson.html
Margaret Benyon www.jrholocollection.com/collection/benyon.html (scroll to bottom of page)
Tung Jeong www.jrholocollection.com/collection/jeong.html
ending up with probably the most precious piece in my collection, Equivocal Forks I by Harriet Casdin-Silver www.jrholocollection.com/collection/casdin.html
Jim being Jim, we viewed it with Red Green and Blue beams though , of course, it is usually shown in red.
We were joined towards the end of the afternoon by the Portuguese holographer, Isabel Azevedo, who is having a show with me at Gallery 286 next month, and we all agreed that we were looking at history.
The idea of a laser transmission show is slowly taking shape and I am on the look-out for significant pieces , if anyone would like to make suggestions.
